The welding unit is only one part of a reliable jointing setup. Pipe range, fitting type, site access and traceability requirements determine the equipment package that should arrive on site.
Choose the process from the joint and pipe range
Electrofusion uses fittings with embedded heating elements and is useful for connections, repairs and constrained locations. Butt fusion joins prepared pipe ends using controlled heat and pressure.
The project specification and fitting arrangement should define the permitted process.
- Pipe diameter and SDR
- Fitting and connection type
- Working space around the joint
- Required weld record or traceability
List the supporting tools
Reliable preparation and alignment matter as much as the control unit. The equipment list should cover the full sequence from cleaning and scraping through to clamping and cooling.
Check that tooling covers the actual outside diameter range and fitting geometry.
- Rotary or hand scraping tools
- Alignment and rerounding clamps
- Pipe cutters, rollers and supports
- Shelter, power supply and cleaning consumables
Decide whether to hire or purchase
Hire can suit short-duration work, changing pipe ranges or projects that need calibrated equipment for a defined period. Purchase can suit repeat use where the business wants its own maintained fleet.
In both cases, confirm service support, calibration status and availability before the site programme begins.
- Expected utilisation and project duration
- Calibration and servicing arrangements
- Operator familiarity and training
- Transport, cases and site security
